I Can’t Escape… Can You?

They are loud… and quite proud. Escape The Fate appeared around 2000 playing small venues and rocking every town they hit. Although they weren’t super popular they got lots of Vegas radio play time and would soon become an amazing hardcore screamo band. Randomly, the band met through Myspace when singer Ronnie Radke and Bassist Max Green were looking for new band members. After finding the rest of their members (Omar Espinosa – Lead Guitar/Vocals, Bryan “Monte” Money – Rhythm Guitar/ Vocals, Robert Ortiz – Drums) the band soon won a radio contest judged by “My Chemical Romance”.  Which gave them the opportunity to open a show on the headlining tour with “Alkaline Trio” and “Reggie And The Full Effect”.

The band then signed to “Epitaph Records” which produced their 5 song EP called “There’s No Sympathy For The Dead”. Which appeared in May of 2006. The band credits the cd’s success for their many tour dates with the Warped Tour.

The bands full length cd came out in September of 2006 called “Dying Is Your Latest Fashion”.

Escape The Fate continues to tour around the world giving everyone an earful everywhere they go. Love em’ or hate em’ you can’t deny the awesome power of these lyrics and riffs. I’m So Sick

What do you think of a female singer for a “screamo” band? You have your guy screamo bands, like for instance Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Bullet for My Valentine, My Chemical Romance, and so many more. Flyleaf is one of the few bands with a female singer who can scream a line in a song.

Flyleaf members include:

Lacey Mosely-Singer

Sameer Bhattacharya- Guitar

Jared Hartmann- Guitar

Pat Seals- Bass

James Culpepper- Drums

Flyleaf was formed in Belton, Texas in 2002. Lacey and James started off the band in the late nineties. They recruited Jared and Sameer later on. In 2000, Pat joined when leaving his former band The Grove. After a showcase, they were signed with Octone Records, which they announced the arrival of the now popular band Flyleaf on January 7th, 2004. In 2005, they released their first full-length self-titled album with Howard Benson, which was available in stores on October 4th. In 2006, the band moved to J records as part of an exclusive band development deal between J Records, RCA, and Octone Records. They are also distributed to Christian markets under SRE Recordings.

Flyleaf has toured with Breaking Benjamin, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Stone Sour, Forever Never, Skillet, Dropping Daylight, Sick Puppies, Kill Hannah, and Resident Hero in many different countries. They are touring with Seether in late 2008.

Flyleaf’s songs has had a debuted in films and video games. A  remix to “I’m So Sick” is on the Resident Evil:Extinction soundtrack. The music video for the same song briefly appeared in Live Free or Die Hard in 2007. They released a song titled “Tina” which debuted on Guitar Hero 3. “I’m So Sick” is also on the infamous Rock Band. They are working on a new album, which the date for release has not been announced yet. So stop by and check ‘em out.

Stuck in the MUD!!!

Okay, it’s time to shed a little light on a band that might not be known too well. Whether you’ve heard of them or not, I don’t know. But judging by how much I’ve heard them talked about, not many people have experienced this band. Well it’s time to get you’re head out of the MUD and into the . . .

Oh yeah, I’m aiming straight for the vein on this one, people – Mudvayne is now live and in your face. Formed in 1996, this band is definitely not your average run-of-the-mill metal wannabe. In the early years they released L.D. 50 and quickly distinguished themselves from other bands by wearing strange, often multicolored stage makeup and using odd stage names. Theri first single off the album was the gritty, hard-hitting Dig. It won several awards including the MTV2 Award. It was the first time the award had ever been presented. Their next single was Death Blooms, and it was written about Chad Gray’s grandmother being neglected in a nursing home when he was younger because she was near death.

In 2003 Mudvayne decided to abandon all use of makeup, but that the use of it in the future is not out of the picture. Their third studio album, Lost and Found, was released in 2005 and is my favorite Mudvayne album. The single Determined is loud, proud, and rattles your brain. It speaks of staying determined when things get rough. So who says that metal bands can’t be inspirational? Next was Happy?, and that’s my favorite song written by them. The video’s pretty interesting. It starts off with the band in a field of flowers. As the song enters the first chorus the weather changes to a tornado. It becomes more and more violent until the end of the song when the sun breaks back out. A new studio album is expected to be released this year, rumored as Shades of Gray or Revelation. For more info check out www.mudvayne.com. Later!

Smile Empty Soul… Need I Say More?

Smile Empty Soul is one of my favorite bands ever. However, they weren’t very popular until recently. Not many people knew who they were. For those of you who don’t… you’re about to find out.

Smile Empty Soul formed when members Sean Danielsen, Ryan Martin and Jake Kilmer were still in high school.  During this time the band kept it simple, playing only hometown shows and still dreaming of their major gig. The opportunity arose and the boys headed to the Sunset Strip and passed a demo to the owner of a small record label called “ThroBack Records” and later landed an even better deal with Jason Flom with Lava Records.

On May 27, 2003, the band released their first self titled album “Smile Empty Soul” which included some of their most popular songs.  With three successful singles the cd was certified gold with over 500,000 sold. On September 22, 2005, their second cd Anxiety came out. However, people hadn’t heard from them in so long it was only the truly hardcore fans (such as myself) that got this record. The band chose to lower their image and stay “Underground” for awhile. And it worked…

Thanks to Myspace, Facebook and other community based websites, Smile Empty Soul emerged again in early October, 2006 and produced an album which came out in October.  Smile Empty Soul is back!

According to the bands myspace page, they started recording their new album in Greenville SC in February. They have been playing a couple shows around here and are beginning to find the fan base they truly want… small town fans. If you would like to know more about Smile Empty Soul visit their myspace at www.myspace.com/smileemptysoulmusic or check out the bands official website at www.smileemptysoul.com.
